This play is a romantic comedy, only with pirates, and no romance. Two pirates have been banished to the crow’s nest, tied up by their mad captain – and are to remain there until they’ve learned to get along with one another.
They’ve already been there for quite some time.
Almost entirely improvised, the show’s subject matter is decided by the audience in the lobby prior to the show, and the show’s topics are revealed to the pirates only as the performance is already in progress.
The stage is set with what looks like the topmost parts of an 18th Century ship. There’s a crow’s nest and a cross-beam, the top parts of sails, rigging. A pirate flag flies above.
Featuring the multi-award-winning talents of director/improviser/designer AL Connors, and performers/creators Margo MacDonald and Richard Gélinas. Much Ado About Feckin’ Pirates! premiered at The Gladstone Theatre in 2014 and played at the undercurrents: theatre below the mainstream festival in February 2015.
Pirate clowns. A missing parrot. Rum. Improv. Shanties. Diddling. Stories.
And probably a sword fight.
